This 35-Hour course package includes the 3-hour Power to Arrest (PTA) Part A online course, as well
as the full additional 32-hours of BSIS Continuing Education Courses that are
required for all first year security guards in California. The 35-hours of
combined courses are all of the courses you need to both  obtain your guard card
and to complete the BSIS first year 32-Hour continuing education requirement. However,
you must also take the 5-hours Part B Appropriate Use of Force (AUOF) training before you can
apply for the guard card.
IMPORTANT: The BSIS Required 5-hour Appropriate Use of Force - Part B in-person training is NOT included with the Power to Arrest Part - A online training included in this package. To complete the guard card application training requirements, students must complete Part A online, and then also select a classroom training location to purchase and complete Part B.
California Code
of Regulations 643: Skills Training Course for Security Guards and PSOs lists the required license training, including some required in-person training, before applying for a guard card or PSO license.

35-Hour Course Package Contents
The 35-hour online course package includes the following 35 hours of BSIS Certified security guard training courses:
Guard Card and PSO License Training Requirements (California)
The following CA State security guard and PSO training requirements are taken from the CA State BSIS Security Guard Training Requirements from the California Code of Regulations and from the CA State BSIS website:

The power to arrest Part A training and Appropriate Use of Force Part B training must both
be completed prior to the issueance of a Security Guard License (guard card) or PSO license (BPC Sections 7583.6 and 7583.8). The thirty-two (32) hours of the Department of Consumer Affairs' Skills Training Course for Security Guards and Proprietary Private Security Officers must be completed within the first six (6) months of licensure. Eight (8) hours of continuing training must be completed annually (BPC 7583.6 and CCR 643). The training may be administered by the guard's employing private patrol operator or by a Bureau-certified course provider, such as an instructor with a TFF license. The training may be administered by the PPSO’s employing PSE or a Bureau-certified course provider, such as an instructor with a TFF license.

BSIS Advises: All registered security guards and PSOs should maintain their own documented proof of completion of their training.
Employers are required to maintain records for a minimum of two years; however registrants may need to provide subsequent
employers or BSIS with training records. As a result, the BSIS recommends that registrants maintain copies of all of their own training records.
The training hours listed above are broken down as follows:
All Security Guards must take the first 8-hour required course before applying for their Guard Card (8 hours).
Power
to Arrest and Appropriate Use of Force training requirements:
The Power to Arrest and Appropriate Use of Force training consists of a total of eight (8) hours of training in the following two (2) subjects:
Part A. Power to Arrest - 3 Hours
Part B. Appropriate Use of Force - 5 Hours
The
following five (5) topics of the Appropriate Use of Force training must be held in person:
- The use of objectively reasonable force;
- Use of force review and analysis;
- De-escalation and interpersonal communication training, including tactical methods that use time, distance, cover, and concealment, to avoid escalating situations that lead to violence;
- Use of force scenarios, including simulations of low-frequency, high-risk situations and calls for service, shoot-or-don't-shoot situations, and real-time force option decision making;
- Active shooter situations.
All Security Guards must take 16 hours of Mandatory Courses and 16 hours of Elective Courses within the first six months getting their guard card.
